Parts of the Board: Rocker

Instead of me blabbing on and on, let's let a video to the 'splaining. Rocker is what helps these crazy kids make the wave at the beginning of this clip. OR - Rocker is the curve of the board from its nose to its tail. High performance shortboards that the pros compete with have a lot and typically longboards and beginner boards have little. Lots of rocker helps you get through steep parts of the wave as seen in the beginning of this clip. And less rocker can help you build paddling speed quickly and get into waves earlier.

Pro Tip: a little rocker never hurt. logs or some alternative boards with little to no rocker can be fun or can spell disaster if your not used to them.

While surfboard volume is a trendy number to look at when browsing for a new board online or in person, don't forget to take into account rocker: for best results in the water and to avoid those post-purchase blues. Questions? Hit me up. And remember - no such thing as a stupid question. This is a safe space.

See yew out there!
